A Memoir by Barry Bull

Unbreakabull is an intimate narrative that describes Barry Bull’s extraordinary life in music. His story begins on September 2018, with the sudden and tragic passing of his lifetime partner Kayleen, who suffered a stroke during a fundraising concert they were hosting for hearing-impaired children.

Too early to contemplate a life without his ‘support act’ (as Barry affectionately refers to his confidante of over 50 years), he journeys back in time, harnessing his instant connection to the foot-thumping beats of the musical landscape of the 1950s onwards. So many stories to choose from, and reasons to share a captivating journey working with some of the biggest music celebrities on the planet.

With rock ’n’ roll his centre of gravity and Kayleen by his side, the melody of life was never dull. For more than twenty-five years their multi award- winning Brisbane business, Toombul Music, was constantly in the spotlight of the Australian music and retail industry. What makes Barry’s story so insightful, is how the digital revolution transformed the music industry he knew and loved, and how an old Fender guitar was pivotal to his survival. But his biggest quest for survival came suddenly with the unexpected death of Kayleen, and his struggle to stay connected to the living world as the music within him began to fade. Finding a way back to a tolerable daily routine needed a road map that didn’t seem to exist.

This is an inspirational true story of a love of music, an old guitar, a girl in a million and how they loved him back. One man’s unique story for all who have loved and lost and have music in their soul. A book that will offer hope and resilience to anyone who has lost a loved one.
