Live and Local Micro Festival
SUNSHINE COAST LIVE & LOCAL MICRO-FESTIVAL PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
Sunshine Coast Live & Local Micro-Festival is employing 71 music makers showcasing in 10 venues across the Sunshine Coast region over 4 jam-packed days as part of the innovative program invigorating the creative economy.
Sunshine Coast is kicking off the series of five SEQ north regions delivering a Live & Local program lead by the Creative Arts Alliance (CAA) and supported locally by the Sunshine Coast Council.
Live & Local Project Lead Emily Murphy said “The aim is to connect music makers with venues keen to present original, live music both now and into the future.”
“It is clear that there is an appetite to support live, original music in the region and Sunshine Coast Council is championing this. Thanks to some quick thinking and council’s recent support, we’ve been able to boost the Sunshine Coast project to include performers who were scheduled to present as part of Horizon Festival’s program which was unfortunately cancelled in August.”
As well performance opportunities, Live & Local is connecting all musicians from the region and any interested venues with two days of free, high-quality professional development delivered in partnership with Queensland’s peak body, QMusic.
“Live and Local is a unique project that combines the strategic connections of our national partners the Live Music Office and APRA/AMCOS and state partners QMusic with deeply localised knowledge of council and our music industry. These powerful connections are exactly the building blocks needed for the Sunshine Coast to build a sustainable music industry” said Creative Arts Alliance Chair, Phil Smith.
Sunshine Coast’s Live & Local has been driven by local emerging curator Andrea Kirwin through a popular EOI process and in deep consultation with both existing and new music venues.
“It is exciting to be working with so many talented musicians who all call the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara nations ‘home.’” she said.
“The Sunshine Coast is a melting pot of musicians and creatives. In every area of the coast there are artists responding to this gorgeous region we live in. Venues like restaurants, cafes and pubs are often very creative spaces run by creative people. It’s a fantastic project to be matching them with musicians and help breathe some positivity into the difficult times we’ve had of late in our industries,” said Ms Kirwin.
The Live & Local Sunshine Coast Micro-Festival gigs are family friendly, absolutely free and no bookings are required; however there is limited seating so early arrival is recommended.
You can expect to see pop-up gigs across Nambour Saturday September 11, Eumundi Sunday September 12, Palmwoods and Eudlo Saturday September 18, and Mooloolaba on Sunday September 19 featuring 36 different acts from soloists to bands.
